Marathon, Florida, July 2015 – On January 8th, 9th and 10th, Saint Columba Episcopal Church, Celtic Heritage Productions and The Monroe County Tourist and Development Council will present the 3rd annual Florida Keys Celtic Festival (FKCF) . Following the Kilts in the Keys kickoff party on Friday night, January 8th, at the Marathon Grill and Ale House, the festival moves to the Marathon Community Park, for two full days of fun, from 11am-8pm Saturday, and 11am-7pm Sunday. After doubling attendance from prior years, FKCF is very excited to expand the dates and the events to accommodate even larger crowds.
Proceeds from the Kilts in The Keys Party help underwrite the Florida Keys Celtic Festival, which in turn supports The Hammock House for Children and Youth. This kickoff event sets the tone for the next two days of music, food, drink and fun. Kilted lads and lassies will attend, a Celtic band will prompt our moving feet and call deep in our hearts. Authentic brews and tasty treats will accompany the evening’s fellowship while a gentle Keys climate will help our northern guests forget the depths of winter.
The 2016 Florida Keys Celtic Festival will feature family-friendly Celtic rock and Traditional music, Irish & Scottish Dancing, Pipes and Drums, a Children’s Glen with games, face painting and fun activities, and fabulous Celtic (and Keys) foods and crafts vendors. Highland Athletics, the original Strongman sport, features a sanctioned Woman’s Highland Athletics Competition and Men’s Highland Athletic Demonstrations. The Official Florida Haggis Hurling Championship a Sheepdog Herding Demo return for 2016. Sunday morning will open with a 10am on-field Church service with Reverend Debra.
Proceeds from the Florida Keys Celtic Festival support the Hammock House at St. Columba Episcopal Church, an after school center and summer camp providing nurturing and nutrition. The Hammock House was born out of concern for Middle Keys children who often lack safe, affordable recreation and enough to eat when school is out of session. The Hammock House After School Care and Just for Fun summer and school break camps provide Marathon’s kids a no-cost, healthy place to thrive emotionally, intellectually, artistically and spiritually.
